Prayer for Jesus' intervention in troubled marriages

Weekly prayer of July 31, 2005.

At The Way Ministries…John 14:6 everything is done in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Our Father and our God in heaven. Hallowed be Your name. We thank You LORD for the last day in July and the beginning of the first week in August. In response to our request to show us how to prevent divorce and have peace and unity in marriage , You said:

If My people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14)

The first thing that struck me in that verse is that for marriages to receive divine guidance and direction we ought to be Your people who are called by Your name. We rejoice O LORD in knowing that as Christians we fall under that category. The second thing that struck me is that as Your people we must humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face. These set of conditions are choices that individuals must make for themselves. We rejoice in knowing that You allow us to make choices rather than force Your will upon us. The challenge according to Paul is, not doing “the good that I will to do,” and doing “the evil I will not to do” (Romans 7:19). To me that mean that man cannot help but to sin unless the Spirit of God is within him. Like Paul, “I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord… for there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, and who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 7:25 – 8:1).

Enable all to know that part of the problem with marriages today is that some couples have no relationship with You and of those that do, not all live and walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25). The third thing that struck me in Your response is that as Your people we must turn from our wicked ways. In other words, we must confess and repent of our sins for God to hear our prayers and show us how to prevent divorce and have peace and unity in marriage. LORD, please help us to truly be humble and pray and seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

To our visitors: Let this prayer be yours as you receive it and personally offer it to God, Amen.
